Katie Barbee
A message from Principal Katie Barbee:
I am honored to serve as the principal of Crest Middle School. This is my fourth year at Crest Middle and my tenth year as a principal for Cleveland County Schools.
With 22 years of experience in the district, my goal has always been to support our students, staff, families, and community in creating a positive and successful learning environment.
As a proud graduate of Crest High School and Appalachian State University, I started my career as a teacher in Cleveland County. I was driven by a passion for education and a commitment to giving back to the community that shaped me.
I later earned my Master’s degree in School Administration from Gardner-Webb University and an Educational Specialist Degree from Converse College.
It is a privilege to work alongside a team of dedicated educators, and I look forward to another year of growth, collaboration, and success with our Crest Middle family. Go Dragons! 🐉

I’m excited to serve as the 8th Grade Assistant Principal! This is my third year at CMS and my ninth year in education.
As a proud graduate of Burns High School and UNC-Chapel Hill, I began my teaching career in Cleveland County Schools. Throughout my career, I’ve had the opportunity to work in various roles, from teaching 8th grade Social Studies to 6th grade Math. I also hold a Master’s degree in School Administration from UNC-Charlotte.
I’m passionate about doing what’s best for our students and staff. I am fully committed to supporting our school community and making sure our school is a place where all students feel safe, valued, and motivated to succeed. Go Dragons!

I graduated from East Rutherford High School and received my Bachelors degree from Gardner-Webb University with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration. In 2001, I received my teaching license from Appalachian State and began my teaching career at the FOCUS Academy. FOCUS Academy was a grant funded position for students that quit regular high school and are preparing to earn their GED. After two years I moved to Crest Middle to teach Computer skills for 10 years and then went to Shelby High as the Freshman Academy Director. I thoroughly enjoyed being a Golden Lion but have returned to Crest Middle as an Assistant Principal. I am currently serving as the 6th Grade Administrator, Bus Coordinator and Administrator over facilities. Go Dragons!!!!
